At the reopening of the German embassy in Damascus, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Green Party) appealed for even more migrants to come to Germany. The minister first gave a speech in German, then answered some journalists' questions in English and suddenly made it clear: "Germany is a country with a relatively low birth rate. That's why we need migrants! Otherwise, our country will no longer function in the future."
She continued: "That's why we also need people who speak German. Unfortunately, it's not the easiest language in the world to learn. That's why we have a global interest in having German schools and German universities."
