Watering an Artificial Plant
Part 3/3

One night when Raghu was returning home, he heard a brawl of drunkards in the locality. His childhood friends all gathered to see the fun and pulled him along. After seeing the mess they were creating, Raghu tried to stop them and move them apart. However, both the men together started hurling fists and kicks on Raghu. One of them who lived in the back ally and knew Raghu, spat on him, “You swine! Your father was also a drunkard like us…. How dare you interfere in our matters.. huh?”. Raghu got furious, his eyes started reddening and hands started shivering in rage. He picked himself up and got hold of that man and ruthlessly began to hit him. While the man’s face bled, Raghu’s eyes continued to grow red. He picked up a wooden log from the roadside and continued to hammer the poor man’s head breaking his skull and a bulging bloody mass lumped out. The man fell down in the corner and remained the subject of Raghu’s anger and smashes for long time. Unaware and unconscious of his actions, Raghu didn’t even realize when the man stopped moving and lost life. People that had gathered around started dispersing when they realized that the street brawl had now turned into a murder. Some friends of Raghu came and strongly held him back, dragged him out of the street and took him home.

Rubina sat helpless and motionless on the dining table chair when advocate Nambiar finished his talking. The silence he left was immediately filled by sobs of Raghu’s mother that increased to wails. Rubina rested her head on her hands that were supported from the table. Nambiar tried to console the old mother and helped her get up from the chair. The neighbours had gathered in the passage hearing Raghu’s mother who was now being escorted out by Nambiar. Rubina’s eyes rolled out tears and her memories went back to the first day when she had met Raghu more than a decade ago. She had been involved in Raghu’s life since then, trying to shape it and give him a better future. Today, after a very long fight in the court, they had lost the case and Raghu was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment. She looked outside her balcony, where she would usually see him on the streets. Her water sprinkler rested there near the crotons she had planted a month ago. All her efforts had been in vain when he lost his self-control that night and she felt as if she had been watering an artificial plant all along.

I live in a world were the sun rules over all
Huum! Haa! rules over all
He'll give you his mark just right after you are born
Huum! Haa! right after you are born
His mark is like lava he'll send it deep down your gall
Huum! Haa! deep down your gall

I live in a world were the sun rules day and night
Huum! Haa! rules day and night
He'll take the moon's glory he won't even let it a smile
Huum! Haa! let it a smile

He scorched the trees and mountains with his too much light
Huum! Haa! his too much light
Grow tall to me and take more food, he told the trees
Huum! Haa! he told the trees
And to the mountains, he said come to me and I'll give you lava for free
Huum! Haa! lava for free

The Breaking of a Bond

The moon is my witness, I loved you since that first night. Our young souls came together. It felt just right. Like any other young love, the periphescence was magical. The mystery of love was unraveling before our eyes.

I never thought love could feel this good. It was the best feeling ever felt. All the goodness of life felt in one moment. When we were together.

I had one wish. That it could go on forever. That the sun would rise to give it's warm glow to this bond. That it's radiance would give a breath of life and strengthen our love.

When facing the future, a man can only hope. And hope I did. But nothing could have prepared me for the darkness that followed.

Days came and went, but all my heart could see was black. My heart felt suffocated. Tired of giving and never getting. This love had turned into a nightmare.

A wounded heart will wander in search of peace. Look for light at the end of the tunnel. Long for the warmth of the sun. I could not take this any longer. Though painful to bear, this love had come to an end.

It was a long lonely night after we broke up. My heart danced in joy. It was free. It glowed in it's new lightness, the burden had been lifted. It had found the sun. Tears rolled down my cheeks freely. I did not care. It was dawn already. The sun would rise soon. I would look up to it and let it's warm hand dry my tears.

The rain

The rain brings rest
Dark clouds hover for days
The Sun evades the clouds
Then, one night, rain falls
In torrents, drenching the
Dreamy earth. The farmers
Get busy dressing the moist
Earth for weeks. All the while
The earth is at rest, having
Another ritual bath of the
Year. How relaxed and cute
She grows, like a blossomed
Maiden, ready to be shy.
And the drops glide down her
Feet, with scent of flowers.

He is like a kid. Yes he is. Like a 11 year old kid. He fought in the second world war. He was really brave. He was an American soldier. A brave American soldier. He fought tooth and nail just with a riffle. After when he returned from the army hospital, the doctor whose name was probably Marry Gliton or Marry Gomez said to his family, "Due to a deadly TBI to his pre-frontal cortex now he can't behave like adults. Rather he will behave like children. He needs care and affection. We tried giving him shock therapy but everything went down the drain as his level of gray matter cells is extremely low. You have to take care of him like a baby".

Then his family...

By the way, I forgot to tell you his name . His name is James.

Yeah, now what I was saying, his family then took him to their house. But James wasn't happy at all as his family used to consider him as a burden upon them. So they used to torment him a lot. His daughter-in-law used to rebuke him everyday. And his son crossed almost every limit. Once his son slapped James because he of opened the refrigerator without telling them to eat a piece of cheese. Though after 6 months a local newspaper reporter wrote about his torture in their article. A local NGO tried to help them but his family didn't even allow them to enter their house. After receiving a huge backlash from their neighbours his family decided to send him to a mental asylum. But after 13 months James somehow ran way from that asylum. The asylum told his family about the incident. But his family refused to do anything. Since then he can be found on this pavement of this street, begging and urging people like a child beggar to give him some food.

But sadly, considering his beard, his moustache, his uneven face, his uncombed hair, strangers really think that he is a beggar. But they real don't know about his contribution to the nation.

The hangout was so unpredictably dull. I was bored most of the time. Well, as the hangout was in spaceX's orbital pub with few of planet X's inhabitants and few friends from neighbouring planets, it was hoped to be entertaining. It was, however, perceived as the usual drinking and gambling with nothing exciting except for a show of new weaponry in space. Some gentleman gave us a nice show as a space-show but that was the best we had. On my way home, my bike broke down in mid galaxy XE-22 and i had to stay the night in a nearby planet called Namek. It had an environment very much like Earth with greenery and hills. There was a forest which had few caves suitable for a night. The night was silent and shiny with all the stars for sometime. I got a glimpse of a flock of dinosaurs moving few hundred feet away from me. The next morning I was blessed with a new set of electric starters for my bike by a passing fleet of traders. My bike was repaired and I was home in about half a day.

Part 1

It is the weekend and it is socializing time of the week. I just returned home from my office. I was looking forward to the weekend gathering in spaceX's orbital pub with some of my friends. I freshened up and entered my garage where my bike was parked. I lit a cigarette and sat on the bike. I started the bike and with a enthusiastic smile took off to the pub. As soon as i reached the pub, there was a free valet parking by the pub who took my bike to store it in their parking storage. I entered the pub to see my friends already partying. I reached the bar for a small drink before joining my mates. We were sitting by a glass wall which was overlooking the moon titan and some asteriods. After about 15 mins, the pub announced on their speakers for a space-show by the Ginyu Force. We started watching the show through the glass wall. The show was primarily showing some high-tech space crafts and also had a fighter combat with indestructible missiles. The space craft was high tech with advanced maneuvering capabilities and some better missiles. The fight was interesting to watch as two fighters fought around the moon while maneuvering around some asteriods and taking hits at each other. The rest of the night went with us gambling and drinking but it was the usual hangout routine with nothing interesting.

Part 2

The night was ending and so was my energy. I looked at my watch and saw it was nearly sunrise. I decided to leave and got up. I bid my mates goodnight and headed for the valet parking. The valet employee got my bike to me and I lit another cigarette for the way home. I passed through XE-10, my childhood galaxy where i could still remember my first space trip. As i was going home, i got a glimpse of few stars that were forming which was a beautiful view. The auroras coming out of them was like a child coming out of his mother's womb. Next thing I know, I was passing through galaxy AE-22 where my bike broke down and was not having much ability to reach home. I saw the planet Namek at a few light minutes away from me. I got there and it was almost midnight in that planet. The planet's environment was identical to Earth's environment. There were trees, hills, a few rivers and an ocean. I saw a cave on my way to the ground and decided to spend the night there. When I reached the cave, I lit a bonfire to keep me warm and to wary off any unwanted living beings. While I was wandering at the stars, I could hear a flock of dinosaurs at a few hundred feet away from me. They were headed in a group to the hills. I returned to the cave and decided to take a night's sleep to help my energy refill.
Empty words were all Mustang muttered as she trotted back and forth the length of the enclosed field. Once or twice, my ears caught a sentence but no more than that. With my back to the fence, I slowly slid down to the grass and let out a deep sigh of relief which earned me a snort from my companion.
"You're not listening" She complained.
"Sorry." I answered with a tired wave of my hand. Although, my eyes were to the ground, I knew when Mustang came to stand over me. So, I peered up from under my lashes at the mass of shinny black skin in front of me. I allowed my eyes to travel up the length of her body and met her gaze. My chest tightened.
"I didn't do it..."
A series of images flashed through my mind. A girl. In a bathing suit. Water splashing.
I clasped my hands down over my head, a pathetic attempts to stop the invasion.
Mustang's lowered herself to the ground, her legs folding neatly beneath her. She continued to observe me.

The memories kept flooding back without warning and I felt my walls come apart. I was by the lake again. The sun was warm against my skin. Big brown eyes were gazing up at me. Her laughter piercing my ears.
I must have appeared dazed because Mustang nudged me with her muzzle, pulling me from my reverie.

"Do you remember what happened?" Mustang's inquired, her voice cool and even.
I shook my head in response.
She stretched out two long legs and crossed one hoof over the other. Then she said ,
"Tell me what you remember," ignoring my answer.
I clutched my chest as my heart threatened to tear out of my ribs.
More images.

I let my head my hang low and began the story as I remembered it.
"Abigail and I. She's laughing and..." My voice caught in my throat and my eyes burned with the tears.
I didn't do it.

"She kept calling me by another name. Shan—" I shut my eye lids tightly, trying to recall.

"Ashanti?" Mustang chipped in. I lifted up my face to look at her for a brief moment and returned my gaze to the earth.

"Ashanti..." I repeated slowly. It felt awfully familiar. I drew in a deep breath and carried on.
"She wanted us to go deeper into the water. Something...about being one with nature."
"So, she took my hand, and pulled me deeper. Then..."
I paused and tried to slow my breathing. Every muscle in my body was tensed. As if sensing my inner struggles, Mustang nestled her head in my lap. I was taken aback by the gesture and reached out with unsteady fingers to stroked her mane.

****
Little Ashanti's eyes fluttered open to stare at her reflection in the mirror. Dull brown eyes stared back. She picked up her stuffed animal and flung herself onto her bed. Lost in thought, She resumed stroking her animal.

"Mustang?" She called out .
"Yes, Ashanti?"
"I'm bored." She mumbled.
No response.
"Can I change the story I'm telling myself?" She said.
"I feared you never would." replied Mustang.
A smile settled on her lips. Ashanti closed her eyes and travelled far.
