💰 Fortnite on iOS made $15 million in its first three weeks in the App Store
According to SensorTower, Epic Games’ #iOS port of smash hit #Fortnite has earned more than $15 million in its first three weeks on the market.
Fortnite on iOS is now out-earning mobile heavyweights like #CandyCrushSaga, #ClashOfClans, and #PokemonGo on a weekly revenue basis, earning $6.4 million in the last seven days compared to Candy Crush Saga’s $5.8 million.
Sensor Tower estimates Fortnite has been downloaded 11 million times on mobile alone. According to Superdata Research, another game analytics company, Epic made about $126 million through Fortnite in-app purchases in the month of February. Mobile sales will surely boost that figure in the coming months.

More than 23 million adults in the U.S. have listened to a #Podcast in the past month on a #Smartphone. That’s double the amount who listened on a computer in 2017.
Three years ago, the computer is where the largest podcast audience could be found.
From 2014 to 2017, the podcasting audience on smartphones increased by 157%. The growth of podcasting is being driven by #smartphones.

The top ten #iPhone apps in the world last month had a combined download figure of 68 million. According to Priori Data, at the top of the list was the ever popular #WhatsApp with 9 million. Also of note this month is the entry of the mobile versions of the games #PUBG and #Fortnite. The battle royale style shooters have risen to enormous levels of popularity on PC and console, and, as can be seen from this chart, are now beginning to make their mark on the mobile market with a combined download total of 21 million downloads to iPhones in March.

🎵 Music-Streaming: Who Pays Best?
In recent years, on-demand #Music Streaming has emerged as a possible solution for the industry’s pains and after years of decline, the music industry has returned to growth. But despite looking like the music industry’s lifeline, streaming services such as Spotify have often been criticized in the past for not paying artists adequately.
The following chart by Statista shows that a single stream is in fact of little value. However, there is a substantial difference between the many services competing for the listeners’ money. Whilst #Spotify is constantly keen on cutting royalties, providers like #Tidal or #AppleMusic are offering substantially higher per-stream rates for artists.

A Russian court has ruled that #Telegram must be blocked in the country. The ruling follows months of battles between Telegram and Roskomnadzor, Russia’s telecommunications watchdog. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) wants to access user data from Telegram through the sharing of encryption keys, but Telegram has refused to comply even after a court ruling.

A recent survey McGinn conducted found #Facebook is not well regarded in many parts of the world.
Australia, Canada and the UK had the highest share of respondents — about 33% — who say that Facebook is having a “negative impact on society,” according to McGinn’s new survey.
Americans were similarly disenchanted, with 32% of Americans — the equivalent of 54 million people — saying Facebook has a negative impact on society.
For context, that makes Facebook less of a societal ill than #Marlboro cigarettes but worse than #McDonalds fast food. It’s also considered far worse than #Google, which just 7% of Americans considered to have a negative impact.
Countries where the percentage was lower, like Japan, tend to be places where people aren’t as likely to use Facebook.

On March 29, #Apple released #iOS 11.3, the latest version of its mobile operating system iOS. While this was only a minor refresh of iOS 11 (iOS 12 will follow later this year), it still was accompanied by the usual growing pains, i.e. users complaining about bugs and other problems.
While Apple would certainly prefer for its users not to have any complaints, the usual backlash after a new iOS version is released shows that its users are actually updating their devices, which is something that sets Apple’s mobile ecosystem apart from #Android.
Whoever purchases a new iPhone can count on his device getting new software for at least a couple of years. Android users on the other hand are often stuck with the version that comes pre-installed with their device, as many manufacturers don’t bother rolling out Android updates to their users.
As the following chart illustrates, 93% of iOS devices run some version of iOS 11 (originally released in September 2017) or iOS 10 (September 2016). Android’s latest version Oreo on the other hand is installed on just 1% of all active devices, while 4 in 10 devices run on a system that is more than three years old. As a consequence iOS app developers find a rather unified playing field while Android developers have to work with a deeply fragmented system.
