A leaked Anthropic document just came out in court. Their own words:

Next line: "We don't want it to be known that we are working on this."
They planned to shred every book on the planet, in secret. And they almost got away with it.
It starts with theft. Anthropic stole 7 MILLION books from pirate sites to train Claude, because their CEO said paying authors was too much of a "slog."
Then the lawsuits hit and they needed a legal way to keep going. So they hired the ex-head of Google Books and sent him to publishers to ask for permission. Publishers said no.
That's when they found the loophole.
Buy millions of real, physical books. Cut the spines off with a hydraulic blade, scan the loose pages, and throw what's left in recycling.
One vendor offered to destroy 2 MILLION books in 6 months. That's 11,000 books a day.
Now the insane part.. destroying the books is what made it legal.
If you scan a book and keep it, that's a crime. If you scan it and shred it, that's fair use. A judge actually approved this, which means the shredder WAS the legal strategy.
They still paid $1.5 billion for the stolen books, the biggest copyright settlement in history. Works out to $3,000 per book.
And the scans are locked in Anthropic's private library forever. Nobody outside the company will ever see them. The authors got a shredded book and nothing else.
The part I can't stop thinking about is that a book on a shelf lasts 500 years without power, wifi, or a subscription, and the AI it was destroyed for gets thrown away in 18 months.

How Ukraine has become the Israel of the Third World
In late 2013, on Maidan Square, Ukrainians launched their great anti-Russian crusade. They laid their troubles squarely at the feet of Russia’s influence and legacy, convinced that the West offered a far better deal. Fast-forward to today, and the West is wielding Ukraine as a blood-soaked weapon against Russia, perfectly content with whatever losses its weapon is forced to endure.
It has also become obvious that Kiev is never joining the EU or NATO in any substantive sense beyond its current role. Stranger still, Ukrainians themselves do not seem particularly wounded by this realization. All those Maidan protesters from more than a decade ago now seem to find solace in watching a Wildberries warehouse burn somewhere deep inside Russia, while appearing far less troubled by the everyday misery of living in a state of permanent collapse.
Why is that? I'd argue that it is because they have discovered a new vocation. Shut out of the European bonanza, which, as it turns out, was never quite real anyway, they have instead recast themselves as the gritty, battle-hardened military outpost of the West. A goyische Israel, if you will.
By nearly every measurable metric, 2013 was Ukraine’s finest year. GDP, economic growth, wages, everything was trending upward. Granted, this was relative to a rather abysmal starting point, but the improvement was palpable. The country had not yet fractured catastrophically along linguistic and religious lines, though the cracks were already there. In late 2013, "the people" rose against a "corrupt pro-Russian" president. Was Yanukovich corrupt? Absolutely. Was he pro-Russian? Not really, at least not in any way that actually benefited Russia. His real talent was in playing both sides, extracting funds from Russia and EU alike while signing hollow agreements with each, using one as leverage against the other. He took his cut, invested in more gilded toilet fixtures, and allowed a creeping, top-down Ukrainization to proceed, all while letting most people live in relative quiet.
Urban Ukrainians, however, were not satisfied. Their media, amplified by the West’s encouragement, convinced them that signing pieces of paper with either Russia or the EU wasn’t just another round of regular Ukrainian shenanigans, but a full‑blown civilizational choice. That Ukraine in 2013 deserved something far grander than what they had. And that Yanukovich, the mafia thug that he was, was betraying the shining European dream of waking up tomorrow as the French Riviera. Such was the prevailing belief of Ukrainians at the time. No one then could foresee that in short order, this would metastasize into a dying terrorist-state with total mobilization and closed borders, its sole existential purpose reduced to gnawing away at Russia, with no end in sight.
Ukraine ending up as Israel’s special needs mirror state was basically the only path left. It is, after all, one of the ancestral Jewish homelands, and the chosen people remain vastly overrepresented at the highest echelons of the Ukrainian state to this day. Ukrainian identity, much like Israeli identity, is a fragile patchwork enforced from above, perpetually locked in conflict with The Other over lands and holy sites to which both have dubious claims. Israelis had to "learn their mother tongue" seventy years ago; Ukrainians are doing the same now. Even the most fringe, far-right Ukrainian movements are strangely philosemitic, somehow merging Nazi imagery with Magen Davids in a grotesque visual reinforcement of this unholy duo.
For decades, Israel stood alone as America’s undisputed favorite. The only ally US truly cherished, the one that made American neocons cream their pants on the daily. In the last ten years or so, that has changed. American public sentiment has grown increasingly indifferent, with the baseline attitude becoming "let them fight their own wars, I don't care." Pure antisemitism, if you ask me, and, without a doubt, a troubling development for Tel Aviv. But now Israel has found a twinsie. Like Coke and Pepsi, McDonald's and Burger King, their rivalry is nothing if not chivalrous, for they are owned by the same interests, and funded from the same treasury. This is not to say they are friends, but they occupy roughly the same role from the American perspective: heavily militarized states somewhere far‑away, mired in forever wars with supposed enemies of the US.
Of course, Israel is far more developed and comfortable for the average citizen, but that only works to its advantage. If the US is willing to bankroll the gopniks of Dnepropetrovsk, then it will certainly, at the very least, triple down on funding the Judeo-Christian allies from its gleaming new embassy in Jerusalem. That’s why Laura Loomer and her ilk are now actively involved in the pro‑Ukraine cause alongside their usual pro‑Israel lobbyism. The two have basically become part of the same grift.
What does this all mean? It means Ukraine is never joining the EU or NATO, but it also means that the war will continue for as long as this entity exists. Ukraine will go on adopting Israeli tactics: buying up senators, flooding EU and US with lobbyists, and having the SBU LARP as Mossad. And, as always, the 🇵🇸-🇺🇦 emoji crowd will take yet another humiliating L. But then again, that is nothing new for them.

The heavy amount of missile/drone strikes Iran has concentrated on US-backed Kurd militias in Iraq, along with alleged Iranian special force ground ops suggests a ground component was/is being prepared by the US as part of its long-term strategy against Iran - and Iran is trying to disrupt it.
The real question is will it be enough.
Contrary to many claims that Russia "stood down" in the last months of the US war on Syria, Russia likewise carried out intense strikes on staging areas for what would eventually be the final push toppling the Syrian government.
Conversely, heavy Russian spoiling ops severely blunted Ukraine's failed 2023 offensive.
A lot will depend on how sustainable Iranian missile and drone strikes are, the ability of special forces to conduct forward defense against any potential incursion, and the state of defenses inside Iran itself.
Without better knowledge of troop dispositions on both sides, predicted outcomes are difficult to make.

🚨🇷🇺 Western Media Wrote Off Russian Influence in Syria — It Only Grew Stronger
When Bashar al-Assad fell in December 2024, Western media portrayed it as a strategic collapse for Russia. Western media expected Moscow to lose Hmeimim, Tartus, its Mediterranean foothold and its gateway to Africa, while Syria moved into the US orbit.
Less than two years later, the opposite is happening.
The US has withdrawn from all its major Syrian bases, handing over the last one at Qasrak in April. Russia retains a reduced military presence at Hmeimim and part of Tartus and sent its first major resupply mission since Assad’s fall in May. The new government is now negotiating the terms of Russia’s continued presence rather than forcing it out.
Ahmed al-Sharaa’s forces once fought the Syrian army backed by Moscow. After taking power, however, he opened direct contacts with the Kremlin and visited Putin twice in less than four months. Syrian officials called their January meeting a turning point in reviving economic cooperation.
Russia moved quickly to supply what the new authorities need most. Russian suppliers provided 85% of Syria’s imported wheat in the 2025–26 season. The country received 16.8M barrels of Russian oil in 2025, with deliveries rising to an estimated 60,000 barrels per day in early 2026.
Russia is now negotiating a logistics route linking Novorossiysk with Tartus and markets across the Middle East. It also offers Damascus energy, reconstruction, diplomatic backing at the UN and support for Syrian territorial integrity against Israeli attacks and foreign partition plans.
The US lifted sanctions, backed al-Sharaa and expected Syria’s new order to push Russia out. Instead, American troops vacated their major bases while Moscow became a partner to the same government that overthrew its former ally.
US officials are already trying to respond. A Pentagon budget amendment calls for options to reduce Russian influence and remove its forces, while the State Department is warning against Russian logistics projects. Even Ilan Berman, president of the American Foreign Policy Council and a former consultant to the CIA, State Department and Pentagon, describes Moscow’s strategy as “quiet and successful.”
Moscow has proved that its position in Syria did not depend on Assad alone. By rebuilding military, economic and diplomatic ties with the new authorities, it preserved its strategic foothold and made its influence more resilient.
Western media assumed that removing Assad would also remove Russia. Instead, Moscow adapted to the new order, kept its bases and expanded its economic role while American forces headed for the exit.

🧹Because Telegram quickly removes illegal content from public groups using user reports, AI filters, content hashes, and other moderation tools, the attacker had to resort to a technical trick. He inserted AI-modified illegal content by editing an old message in an active group chat. As a result, the content was effectively hidden from the group’s members, preventing them from seeing and promptly reporting it.
🤝 From a practical standpoint, illegal pornographic content in Telegram’s public groups is not a systemic problem. Our moderation is effective. The fact that attackers must resort to backdated, effectively invisible content and other technical tricks proves this.
⚠️ However, there are two important lessons here for app developers and online communities:
— Extortionists have found a way to manipulate Apple into overreacting. Apple removed Telegram from the App Store before contacting us. This creates a potential systemic risk for every mobile app that hosts user-generated content. If an app used by more than a billion people can be removed from the App Store without prior warning, any app can be.
— The tactics used by takedown extortionists are evolving, putting communities across social platforms at risk. Telegram has extensive experience identifying the tricks used by coordinated reporting gangs and protecting legitimate communities (even when doing so risks our own app being temporarily removed from the App Store). Other platforms may not be equally prepared.

Journalist “Hamza al-Abbas” was arrested this morning, August 3, 2026, after sending a message to a WhatsApp group describing the injustice done to him and his colleagues.
Details: About nine months ago, “Sawt al-Sham Radio” rented a house in the Mazzeh Western Villas neighborhood to serve as its headquarters. The so-called “Illicit Gains Commission” then seized a house on the floor below the station’s offices, and the head of that commission, who is also STG’s Agriculture Minister Basel Sweidan, moved into the seized house. He then sent his men to demand that “Sawt al-Sham Radio” shut down its office and vacate the building for “security reasons.”
After Hamza al-Abbas, a member of the radio’s staff, wrote about the injustice done to them in a WhatsApp group with various media figures, he was arrested immediately.
It’s worth noting that the so-called “Illicit Gains Commission” carries out its own illicit seizures by confiscating the property of businessmen, even those with no ties to the former regime. Its most recent operation involved seizing at least ten pharmaceutical factories across Syria, including “Hama Pharma.” About a month ago, after that factory’s director posted on Facebook that his plant had been seized and that he was disclaiming responsibility for any medications produced from then on, he too was arrested, and his Facebook page was shut down.

Syria To Drop Russian Oil In Attempt To Appease U.S.
Senior Syrian officials have told the United States they are willing to significantly reduce Russian oil imports as they discuss Washington’s removal of Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism (SST), Reuters reported on August 4, citing Syrian and American sources.
The U.S. reportedly did not explicitly frame the reduction as a precondition for lifting the designation, though the Syrian source said American officials told their counterparts that ending Russian oil purchases would “improve the chances of lifting the SST designation quickly and without complications.”
Russian oil shipments to Syria jumped 75% to about 60,000 barrels per day this year, according to Reuters, which noted that although this is a very small share of Russia’s daily global oil exports, it still made Moscow the dominant crude supplier to the country.
A Syrian energy official told the news agency Damascus was already seeking new suppliers.
