Doctors were forced to leave the babies behind in the hospital after they were reportedly given 30 minutes to evacuate the hospital by Israeli forces and leave patients.

Journalist Bisan Owda documented her journey from al-Shifa Hospital to southern Gaza as she tried to find a new place to shelter. Along her journey, she spokewith elderly people on the road, injured children and a doctor about diseases. Israel has ordered an evacuation to the south, but has continued bombing there. The UN says nearly all of Gaza is on the verge of starvation.

On top of starvation, heavy rains, cold temperatures and potential flooding are putting Gazans more at risk of infectious disease.

🇵🇸 Gaza doctors seized by Israel say they were used as 'human shields' | Middle East Eye –

For several days, Israeli aircraft kept bombing different buildings and departments of the hospital. Quadcopters were shooting directly at people, including patients and displaced persons. People were killed inside the hospital," Abu Saada, the head of the surgery department at al-Shifa Hospital, said.

"They besieged the hospital for five days before they stormed its departments. They kept us [in certain areas] and threatened us [with getting targeted].

"When they stormed the ground stores, they used us [doctors] as human shields to enter and search them. They found the technical maintenance employees there and interrogated them, before they detained them."

🇵🇸 Israel arrests, tortures Gaza doctors while world watches | Electronic Intifada

We were joined by Tarek Loubani, an emergency room physician based in Canada who has worked for years inside al-Shifa hospital in #GazaCity

He discussed the #abduction and #arrest of some of his colleagues by Israeli forces over the last few weeks, including Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the director of #AlShifa #hospital.

Tarek explained that the Israelis’ intention in taking and arresting these physicians, and subjecting them to physical and psychological torture, is meant to break the back of the #healthcare system even further in #Gaza.

“I don’t think any of them really expected, especially under the flag of the #ICRC [International Committee of the Red Cross], for them to be subject to that kind of arrest,” Tarek said.

#AbuSalmiya’s arrest, “is a classic example of how the Israeli system works: it took him in with no charges, for no reason, it’s keeping him for a very specific purpose.”

The Israeli snipers take positions on buildings surrounding the hospital, intensively firing towards the courtyards and patient rooms.

Medical teams and wounded people are left without water, food, or treatment.

We appeal to all parties to protect those present at Kamal Adwan Hospital and to provide water, food, and treatment for the wounded and patients.

We urge all health partners to establish medical points and mobile clinics in the western areas of Khan Yunis and Rafah to provide healthcare for displaced peopel who cannot access health services.

In the United States we would never dream of operating on anyone without consent, let alone a malnourished and barely conscious 9-year-old girl in septic shock. Nevertheless, when we saw Juri, that’s exactly what we did.

The two of us are humanitarian surgeons. Together, in our combined 57 years of volunteering, we’ve worked on more than 40 surgical missions in developing countries on four continents. We’re used to working in disaster and war zones, of being on intimate terms with death and carnage and despair.

I hesitate to call Ghada a hero—because she rejects that label herself. “We are human,” she told me. “And it’s our duty.”

In Gaza, the war doesn’t only unfold on the frontlines or in the skies. It seeps into hospital corridors, overwhelms emergency rooms, and takes aim at those trying to save lives.

Among the many stories of unimaginable suffering and quiet heroism is that of Nurse #Ghada—a woman who survived four sieges at Al-Awda Hospital in the Tal Al-Zaatar area and continues to carry the weight of those days.

🇵🇸At least four Palestinian journalists were killed in Israeli strikes targeting a group of #media workers in #Gaza City's Al Ahli Arab #hospital's courtyard, local reporters told Middle East Eye.

According to local sources, the attack on Thursday morning came with no prior warning of the bombing.

The Israeli assault has so far claimed the lives of correspondent Suleiman Hajjaj and #photographer Ismail Badah, who both worked for Palestine Today TV, alongside photographers Samir al-Rifai, who worked for the Shams News Agency.

Journalists Imad Daloul, who works for Palestine Today TV, and Ahmed Qaljah, who worked for Al-Arabiya TV, were also critically injured in the Israeli attack and have been rushed to the intensive care unit.
